Introduction

The interactive data browser for the Tuberculosis Registry (TBR) is a new web-based tool that allows professionals and the general public to get an overview of the status of tuberculosis or other mycobacterial infections from different perspectives. Currently, the tool makes available data from the period 2000–2022, based on data in the Tuberculosis Registry valid as of 26th July 2023.

Apart from the Tuberculosis Registry (TBR), the browser also draws in part on the publications “Basic overview of the epidemiological situation of tuberculosis in the Czech Republic” and “Tuberculosis and respiratory diseases”, published by the Institute of Health Information and Statistics of the Czech Republic (IHIS CR).

A menu of analyses with different filter settings can be used to obtain several types of outputs, which can then be used as a basis for assessing the epidemiological situation in the Czech Republic. All analyses are available for the years 2000–2022, with the exception of the “Treatment Result” (2014–2021) and “TB drug susceptibility” (2001–2022) analyses. If relative numbers (%) are the output of the analysis, then these are percentages of the total number of reported cases according to the applied filters. Cases can be further filtered by both basic demographic characteristics and selected clinical parameters, except for the “Treatment Result” and “TB drug susceptibility” analyses, where sorting is only possible by year of reporting. The available filters can be freely combined with each other, except for “Type of disease”, “TB location”, “Aetiological agent” and “Mycobacterial testing”, where simultaneous filtering is not possible for technical reasons. When filtering on the basis of one of these indicators, some other filters are automatically disabled, which the user is informed about in advance by notes on all relevant indicators in the filter panel.

The launch of the tool was preceded by many months of trial runs and several rounds of comments, but we would greatly appreciate any additional feedback directly from users, especially if they discover bugs or other shortcomings. Please send suggestions for improvements, comments or feedback on the interactive browser of data from the Tuberculosis Registry to vladimir.bartunek@uzis.cz.
